At Animal Training Academy [ATA], we know you’re a passionate animal trainer driven by a desire to master your skills using a force-free approach.
Yet, like many, you find that the path of animal training has many challenges. It can be stressful, demanding and sometimes downright overwhelming. And there are moments when you might be your own harshest critic, doubting your abilities and fearing mistakes.
But here’s some good news: Sarah Owings, KPA CTP, an expert in tackling challenging training problems, is here to help guide you. Recognized for her innovative techniques, she is a valued previous member of the ClickerExpo and Karen Pryor Academy faculties. With her extensive contributions to training forums, she deeply understands the challenges faced by animal trainers. Her hands-on experience with her own dogs makes her a trusted guide to overcoming this challenge.
Sarah joined us previously live within the ATA membership to help coach our members through training new behaviours with their animals;
Here are three takeaways I took from our awesome session with Sarah:
Preparation is Key: Before you start, ensure you have a clear plan for your training sessions. Understand your goals and the steps you’ll take to achieve them.
Reflect and Learn: After each session, give yourself a moment to pause and review. What went well? What could be better? This reflection is crucial for your growth.
Tune In: Most importantly, learn to listen to the learner in front of you. Every animal is unique, and by truly understanding their needs and cues, you can tailor your approach for maximum success.
